The bad news is that human beings are largely responsible for driving these species to the brink of extinction. But that is also good news because it means we can change our actions and bring these species back to normal population levels. Protecting these animals allows local economies to flourish, ensures maximum ecosystem health, promotes global security, and enables future generations to enjoy the beauty and magnificence of these iconic creatures.
“But perhaps the most important lesson I learned is that there are no walls between human and the elephants except those that we put up ourselves, and that until we allow not only elephants, but all living creatures their place in the sun, we can never be whole ourselves.”
(Lawrence Anthony, founder of Thula Thula Game Reserve and author of The Elephant Whisperer)
